Riding Public Transport: A Meaningful Social Lesson

One of the most memorable sessions was riding local public transportation, the angkot. Children practiced waiting in line, boarding in order, sitting properly, and following instructions throughout the trip.

For some children, this was their first travel experience with peers without direct parent accompaniment. It became a valuable moment to practice independence step by step under full teacher supervision.

During the ride, children also learned basic public-space etiquette, such as speaking politely, respecting other passengers, and keeping the area clean. These social habits are important for everyday life.

Teachers used the trip as a live learning moment by inviting children to notice routes, directions, and simple landmarks. This helped stimulate early spatial awareness and observation skills.

Main Objective: Building Children's Independence

AULIA Preschool designed this activity to strengthen children's independence during out-of-home experiences. Children were guided to adapt to new situations, follow shared routines, and try new things with confidence.

Independence in early childhood does not mean doing everything alone. It means understanding simple needs, asking for help appropriately, and completing manageable tasks with growing self-trust.

Group activities also trained children to cooperate, wait for friends, and offer support. These positive habits build strong social-emotional foundations for both school and home life.

When children learn through direct practice, the experience becomes more meaningful because they feel it, do it, and remember it.
